At one time, science wouldn't even begin to look at any paranormal topics with serious interest. Today, there are many psychical and paranormal research organizations that have brought credibility to the field of paranormal investigations and helped this type of research get its foot in the door of mainstream science.

Society of Psychical Research

The first formal research group into the paranormal was formed in London in 1882. Named the Society for Psychical Research, their goal was, (and still is,) to study psychic and paranormal phenomena under scientific conditions. One of the society's main goals is to establish whether there is some form of life after death. This research is being done by studying hauntings, mediumship, and reincarnation.

From its start in Great Britain, a sister society was formed in the United States known as the American Society for Psychical Research which currently studies various forms of psychic ability and the survival of consciousness after death.
